Dory Musselwhite Thompson is the Assistant Director of Assessment at Kansas State University. She received a Ph.D. in Music Education from the University of Georgia.
While at the University of Georgia, she worked primarily in educational and music psychology, and measurement and assessment, under the mentorship of Brian Wesolowski and George Engelhard. She also served as the instructor of Woodwind Methods, and as a practicum supervisor for students in the instrumental music area. Dr. Thompson received her baccalaureate and masters degrees in Music Education from The University of Georgia. She has studied conducting with John Lynch, Cynthia Johnston-Turner, and Robert Ambrose. She also studied flute with Angela Jones-Reus.
Dr. Thompson has served as a clinician and adjudicator throughout the Metropolitan Atlanta area. Prior to her current appointment, she taught in Gwinnett County for three years as Assistant Band Director and Director of Choral Activities at Central Gwinnett High School. In addition, she was an instructor of special education classes in mathematics. Before teaching in Gwinnett, she was the Band Director at North Whitfield Middle School in Dalton, Georgia, and also served as an Assistant Band Director at Northwest Whitfield High School.
Dr. Thompson maintains professional memberships with the Georgia Music Educators Association, the Society for Music Perception and Cognition, the American Educational Research Association, the National Bandmasters Association, and the National Association for Music Education. She is also a member of Phi Kappa Phi and Pi Kappa Lambda.
